Art = f (Tech) <=> Tech = f '(Art)

Carnegie Mellon´s Master in Entertainment Technology became my option for graduate studies after I read about it in the ETC website. Being a technologist and an enthusiast of artistic disciplines, combining both sides of my brain in order to develop as a professional is the true way to achieve personal and career satisfaction. After studying a 5 years program in Electronics Engineering and being concerned about the problems modern society is facing, it is impossible for me to imagine technology development without a humanist and sensible view. Arts usually respond to the necessity of expressing cultural interests and preoccupations, therefore my goal is to work with a group of talented professionals using art as a mean to transform technology; and technology to bolster new artistic trends. Carnegie Mellon is recognized by being one of the top rated universities in the world, especially in the area of computer sciences and engineering. Hence, to be part of a group where I could share the vision and passion to grow not only as a professional in my area of expertise, but as a human being represents the biggest challenge of my adulthood.

All my life creativity has been my main characteristic. When I was a kid, cardboard boxes, sofas, and bedroom sheets were my favorite toys because they were the raw materials for the construction of infinite dream worlds. At the age of 9, my interest for how things worked and the admiration I felt towards my father started to draw a path before me that led me to the innocent at the moment, but determining decision of studying Electronics Engineering. But it was not only science, because art was also an area of academic interest. In 1996 began a wonderful journey through the world of music, which consolidated my first successful project in the year 2002 as a musician, named “Systaltic”. This project last for 6 years, with music composed by the six members of the band merging their musical influences on every tune. The eclectic result granted the band the second place on the 2003 “Intercolegial de Rock” festival (Inter-School of Rock), which is one of the main competitions in the rock movement in Caracas. The band remained active in different city´s venues until early 2008.

In 2008 I was given the opportunity to move to Montreal for an internship of 5 months in SNC Lavalin ECS as an electronic engineer, thanks to the recommendation of my first career employer Corporación 80-60. There I developed skills in the areas of distributed computing, software integration, database management, high level communications and multidisciplinary team working. After visiting game studio “Eidos Montreal” and interviewing with their recruiter, I realized there was an industry where my professional profile was not only on demand, but also a place where art and computing met. In my last university year I decided to take software and computer related elective courses including an extra credit course on multicore programming, given my determination to follow a career in software and multimedia, and a future master in ETC.
